UL Listed Industrial PCs
UL listing is the compliance checkpoint for industrial control panels under NFPA 79 and NEC. If your facility, insurer, or OEM customer requires it, these are the PCs that qualify.

Big-firm results. Small team flexibility.
Owner level commitment.

What Does UL Listed Actually Mean?
UL listing is a third-party certification issued by UL (formerly Underwriters Laboratories). For an industrial PC, a UL listing means the unit has been evaluated against published UL safety standards, most commonly UL 508 (industrial control equipment) or UL 60950-1/62368-1 (IT equipment), and found to meet electrical safety requirements for construction, wiring, and protection against shock, fire, and overcurrent.
UL listing is not the same as CE marking or RoHS compliance. CE is a manufacturer's self-declaration for EU market access. RoHS restricts hazardous materials. Neither requires independent third-party testing of the actual product.
A UL listed PC carries a UL file number traceable in UL's Product iQ database. That traceability matters when a facility's AHJ (authority having jurisdiction) inspects a control panel. Without a listed component, the panel may not pass, regardless of CE paperwork.
Listed ≠ Recognized. If your spec says "UL Listed," a recognized-component logo on the power supply doesn't satisfy it. The computer itself needs the listing.
Where UL Listing Is Required
There's no blanket federal law that says your computer must be UL Listed, but in these situations, unlisted equipment will stop a project cold.
Control Panel Builds
Panel shops building to UL 508A move faster with equipment that carries its own listing. No supplemental evaluation, less friction at the panel inspection.
Inspections & AHJs
OSHA's NRTL requirements and local electrical inspectors routinely expect listed equipment on the plant floor and in the field.
Procurement & Insurance
Facility engineering standards, government contracts, and insurers frequently write "UL Listed" directly into the equipment spec.
Oil & Gas SCADA
SCADA panels, wellhead controllers, and pipeline monitoring systems operating under NEC Article 500 area classifications rely on UL listed components as standard practice.
Food & Pharma
FDA and USDA-regulated food processing facilities, and cGMP pharmaceutical environments, require documented, validated equipment including UL listed PCs.

UL Listed Industrial PC FAQs
What does it mean for an industrial PC to be UL listed?
UL listing means the PC has been independently tested and certified by UL against published electrical safety standards, typically UL 508 for industrial control equipment. A listed unit carries a UL file number you can verify in UL's Product iQ database. It's not a manufacturer self-declaration; a third-party evaluator tested the actual product.
Is UL listing the same as CE marking?
No. CE is a manufacturer's self-declaration for EU market access. It does not require independent third-party testing. UL listing requires evaluation by a UL-accredited lab, and the listing is traceable by file number. For North American control panel compliance under NFPA 79 or NEC, UL listing is the applicable standard, not CE.
Do I need a UL listed industrial PC for my control panel?
It depends on your industry, facility, and the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ). NFPA 79 and the NEC reference UL standards for components inside industrial control enclosures. OEM machine builders shipping to North American automotive, food processing, or oil and gas customers regularly require UL listed PCs. Check your panel builder's spec and your facility's insurance requirements before specifying.
How can I verify a PC is actually UL listed?
Check UL's Product iQ database at iq.ul.com. Search by manufacturer name or UL file number. A legitimate UL listed industrial PC will have a traceable file number, the applicable product category, and the certifying standard listed. If a product is described as "UL compliant" but has no file number, it is not listed.
What is the difference between UL listed and UL recognized?
UL listed means the complete product is certified for use as a standalone unit. UL recognized (marked with the UR symbol) means a component has been evaluated for use inside a larger product or system. For an industrial PC installed in a control panel, the AHJ typically expects a UL listed unit, not just a recognized component.
Does Industrial PC, Inc. stock UL listed industrial computers?
Yes. We stock UL listed industrial PCs from Neousys, Cincoze, Arbor, and other manufacturers. Many units ship same day or next day from our Indianapolis warehouse. If you need a custom configuration with specific I/O, storage, or environmental ratings, our team can configure and source a listed unit to your spec. Contact us for current stock.
