Finally, we are offering an easily-installed upgrade to our RACK-405-based systems that will add dual USB ports to the front panel. Intel® Atom™ Taking Off in Industrial Computing

The  Intel® Atom™ platform— viewed by the “consumer-oriented” I.T. industry as the platform to watch for such consumer-oriented products such as mobile internet devices (”MIDs”) and the like— is having an arguably more profound, if narrower, impact in the industrial computing world.

Since Intel’s introduction of the Atom™ in March, 2008, the mainstream I.T. mediasphere has been quite abuzz with talk of new (or updated) products such as netbooks, tablet PCs, media players, mobile game platforms, and similar devices made possible (or improved) by the  Intel® Atom™ with its key game-changing attributes: small physical size, low power consumption, cooler operating temperatures, and higher CPU power per watt.  In addition, the platform— in conjunction with associated Intel chipsets— features high data throughputs, networking, wide range of I/O, and robust display interface capabilities.
Yet, there is a lot of excitement and activity in the industrial computing world revolving around this nascent platform.  Manufacturers such as IEI and NEXCOM are bringing out compelling new products based on the Atom™.  The list includes single board computers (”SBCs”) of varying form factors, embedded systems, and panel PCs (”PPCs”).  In the SBC category alone, there are new Atom™-based products in the 3.5″ and 5.25″ form factors, as well as EPIC, mini-ITX, PC/104 and PC/104+, half-size PCI-Express, and PICMG 1.0.
Applications include traditional industrial computing test, measurement, and control utilization, along with point-of-sale systems, medical diagnostics, digital signage, mobile kiosks, surveillance and digital security systems, in-vehicle systems, and much more.  Stay tuned for still more exciting developments yet to come in this busy arena.
Visit our main website for more on our products using the Intel® Atom™ platform.

The latest news:

We just moved into a new corporate location (see the “New Headquarters” page on this blog) and are getting “settled in.”  Most of the big hurdles are over; we are now in “tweaking” mode.

Production is back in full swing, our warehouse and staging space are (mostly) organized, our LAN is up at gigabit Ethernet, and our offices are pretty much on track.  Our conference room has been finished (carpeting, furniture, presentation screen, etc.) and the “to-do” list continues to shrink…
